Top Vegan BBQ Recipes

Before starting with any amazing recipes below, consider taking your dish to the next step by creating your housemade BBQ sauce. In doing so, you can maintain full creative control over the most flavorful aspect of your meal.

Remember, the key to creating your own ideal sauce is through experimentation. Don’t settle for a sauce that doesn’t completely match your taste. Start with a strong base, and then play around with your favorite spices and seasonings. Be sure to sample as you go to create your perfect vegan BBQ!

Vegan Crockpot Carrots

The easiest recipe on our list by far, these crockpot carrots are a breeze. Simply mix a few handfuls of organic baby carrots with your housemade BBQ sauce. Then stir in an additional splash of water, and allow them to cook on high in a crock pot for at least three hours.

Wholesome and filling, yet light enough to avoid leaving you feeling weighed down, these carrots are more than just easy; they’re delicious! The overall result is a sweet, savory side that perfectly substitutes the BBQ cocktail weenies frequently seen at parties and gathers. Either serve this easy dish on the side of a vegan protein or allow dinner guests to select them with decorative toothpicks for easy finger food.

BBQ Baked Tofu

Would any vegan BBQ list be complete without a sticky, sweet, baked tofu option?

Before tackling this recipe, press the excess liquid out of a block of extra firm tofu. To do this, slowly increase the weight of a tofu press to squeeze out the moisture, allowing it more space to soak up your delicious housemade vegan BBQ sauce. Alternatively, press the tofu block between two plates and then use a few cookbooks to add weight for the same effect.

Next, dice the tofu block into smaller portions, each around one inch thick. Then, toss each tofu “steak” in a hefty cornstarch coating. Place your steaks on a single layer across the sheet pan and bake for around 20 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Once they’ve reached a golden crisp, remove the tofu steaks from the oven and turn them over. Brush the steaks with BBQ sauce, then place them back in the oven for another fifteen minutes.

Experiment with new ways of preparing the most classic of all vegan proteins!

BBQ “Pulled” Mushrooms

For a veggie-friendly twist on the traditional “pulled pork,” look no further than this delicious mushroom-based alternative!

Start with a portion of clean, dry oyster mushrooms. Using a fork, shred these mushrooms into long, thin strips. Toss these roughly shredded strips in a drizzle of olive oil, salt, and paprika. Then, bake them in the oven for twenty minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Heat a second drizzle of oil in a pan over medium heat. Transfer the mushrooms to this pan, along with a generous serving of your vegan BBQ sauce. Heat for around five minutes until all the flavors have been fully integrated. Enjoy these pulled mushrooms on a thick slice of Texas toast, served alongside some fresh veggies, or however you prefer!
