Guide to Vegan Red Wine

Vegan Red Wine from Willow in NYC

Whether you’re hoping to celebrate a special occasion or lift up a bad day, a glass of vegan red wine holds the answer! Produced using only wholesome, compassionate methods and quality ingredients, these wines avoid the pitfalls and chemicals so common in the modern practices of most wineries.

Instead, they rely on time-tested, centuries-old steps in their practice, producing the most delicious, complex flavor options imaginable!

Twin Suns, Cabernet Sauvignon (2021), California

At Willow, we take great pride in offering fully inclusive options, ones that guarantee that every guest feels welcome and respected behind our doors. With help from this Twin Suns Cabernet Sauvignon, Kosher diners can sip in peace.

Among the boldest on our menu, this dry wine is flavored with strong notes of black cherry, strong oak, and earthy minerals. The result is an absolutely unforgettable blend of flavors best paired with some of the equally bold meat substitutes on our menu!

If enjoying this alongside a snack, we suggest steering clear of light seafood dishes and salads, which can easily be overpowered by this glass. Instead, lean into the strong flavors and select from among one of our tomato-based pasta dishes or chocolatey desserts.

Produttori Di Manduria, ‘Electric Bee’ Primitivo (2021), Italy

For a wine with all the expected complexity of the red, wrapped up in a more accessible package, we suggest ordering the Produttori De Manduria ‘Electric Bee’ Primitivo.

Though still bold– with signature notes of cherry, plum, and surprisingly delicate hints of honey– this unforgettable wine also maintains a soft touch. A touch of sweetness runs through every glass, balancing out the stronger, dry elements of this red. Rather than being overly tannic, it maintains a smooth mouthfeel, making it the perfect option for any diner new to the world of red wine.

Salcheto, Organic Chianti (2020), Italy

It’s common for red wines to have bold notes of fruit or oak; however, if you’re ever in the mood for something a bit more unexpected or eclectic, there’s no better place to turn than toward the Salcheto Organic Chianti.

This wine holds a unique blend of flavors like you’ve never tasted before: delicate notes of rose petals, balanced with sweet rhubarb and sassafras. The strange balance is one that may not initially seem to work, but after a single taste, you’ll rest assured that you’ve just experienced one of your new favorite wines.

Primary Wine Co., Pinot Noir (2018), California

No “red wine tour” is complete without sampling a taste of a pinot noir. Of all the pinot noirs available in today’s market, few are more delicious or purer than the Primary Wine Co.’s classic pinot noir.

Typical of most wines of this variety, this glass holds notes of cherry and currant, with a fruit-forward aroma. However, where this wine truly shines is in its beautiful inclusion of baking spices, which set this wine apart as something not to be missed.

Cantina di Lana, Montepulciano d’Abruzzo (2020), Italy

The final wine on our list is far from “last place;” the crowd-pleasing Cantini di Lana Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is one for the ages.

Lighter than nearly any other red wine on our menu, this is the best option for anyone hoping for a simple red to enjoy alongside their favorite salad or pasta. The dry flavors of red fruit and earthy undertones are perfectly enhanced by any mushroom dish, which will help tease out those subtle notes of white pepper and spices.
